Grammy Award winning artist, remixer, and producer Benny Benassi goes out of this world on his third full-length solo album, Electroman. Due out June 7, 2011 via Ultra Music, Electroman embraces a myriad of styles including electro, house, pop, R&B and hip-hop. In order to paint this sonic pastiche, Benny casted T-Pain, Pitbull, Chris Brown, Kelis, Gary Go, apl.de.ap of The Black Eyed Peas, Ying Yang Twins and more as the players in his very own electronic space opera.
Progression was the name of the game for Benny from day one. Born, raised, and still residing in his native Italy, he's been elevating electronic music since he debuted his first production with his cousin and studio partner, Alle Benassi, "I Feel So Fine" in 2001 released under the moniker "KMC". The song lit up the Italian and British charts and it seeped out of European clubs into the international zeitgeist. However, he became a worldwide phenomenon with his 2002 single "Satisfaction." Still spun in nightclubs nearly a decade after its release, the song formally introduced audiences everywhere to his unique and undeniable electro soul. The track also set the stage for Benny's first full-length solo release Hypnotica in 2003.
With Hypnotica entrancing listeners everywhere via singles "No Matter What You Do" and "Love Is Gonna Save Us", Benny and Alle went on to remix cuts for Outkast, Goldfrapp, and many more, while dropping two albums under the moniker Benassi Bros.-2004's Pumphonia and 2005's ...Phobia. Those offerings yielded major European hits including "Illusion" and "Hit My Heart."
Continuing his tradition of re-imagining landmark songs from other artists, Benny left his stamp on Public Enemy classic "Bring the Noise" with a 2007 remix that eventually won him a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording (Dance) a year later. However, his solo material-Rock N' Rave-was where his unique identity shined through the most.
Rock N' Rave touted an enigmatic Iggy Pop sample, and it hinted at the stylistic daring that fuels Electroman. For this latest collection, Benny and Alle ventured deeper down the rabbit hole they dug on Rock N' Rave. Working together, the two of them made an important decision to morph other genres with their magic touch. Benny aimed to infuse his bass thump into songs featuring a variety of worldwide pop, hip-hop, and R&B impresarios. The resulting album is unlike anything they've ever done.
Electroman's title track reflects the ethos of pushing the genre's boundaries and buttons, ultimately bringing it to pop, rap, and radio. T-Pain adds an urban wit to the song itself, creating a hypnotic hybrid of house and hip-hop. Hiis signature swagger set against Benny's infectious beats makes it perfect for the club, the car or rocket ship.
Meanwhile, on "Cinema," Benny and U.K. performer Gary Go instantly connected. Together, they create a love anthem for the dance floor, conjuring visuals of Hollywood glory in the process. "Cinema" flutters through an elegant soundscape before breaking into Gary Go's massive chorus. Dubstep maven Skrillex offers up an explosive dubstep remix that's fresh, funky, and fiery. Both versions of the song have become fan and crowd favorites, given their separate identities.
Initially released on Chris Brown's album F.A.M.E., "Beautiful People" sees Benny stretching the very definition of R&B and bringing it to the future with his propulsive, pulsating spark. The song charted at #3 in the U.K., #6 in Australia, New Zealand and Denmark, and #8 in Israel. The music video quickly surpassed 7.5 million views featuring T-Pain, The Game, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland, and more.
Elsewhere, "Spaceship" reaches heavenly heights as Kelis and apl.de.ap thrust into another realm with Benny and Alle at the helm. Originally released in November 2010, the song built the foundation for Electroman. The album also features tracks with Young Money's Shanell, Italian chanteuse Dhany and the Ying Yang Twins. A deluxe version of the album for iTunes features bonus content including "Put It On Me" featuring Pitbull, "Spaceship" and "Cinema" videos, plus a John Dahlbäck instrumental of "Electroman" and a previously unreleased song "Dub Rain."
Live, Benny continues to give incendiary performances at festivals and hotspots worldwide including Electric Daisy Carnival, Coachella, and New York's Electric Zoo. He's got dates lined up everywhere in support of Electroman too. Whether it's on stage or on an iPod, for Benny, it's about giving listeners that same "satisfaction" they fell in love with a decade ago and continue to crave.
You'll have a blast dancing with Electroman...
