Sydney-born DJ and producer Hook N Sling, aka Anthony Maniscalco is recognised as one of the most exciting genre-blending house producers to come on the scene in recent years, a title which has led him to places most only dream about.
2007 was a momentous year for Anthony. He pumped up the opening party for We Love Space at the dancefloor mecca that is Ibiza. He also took his energetic sound to North America, the UK and China. A favourite among both industry types and the public, Anthony raked in a coveted ARIA nomination for his track The Bump and was placed amongst the top 5 producers for inthemix - Australia’s biggest and most well-regarded dance music awards as voted by the public.
The Bump (a collaboration with Kid Kenobi) was the track that well and truly placed Anthony on the international music scene, following the instant success in late 2006 of the chart-topping remix for Renaissance Recordings, Sarah McLeod’s He Doesn’t Love You. As soon as The Bump was released worldwide, it quickly became a Buzz Chart number one and received numerous Radio 1 plays. It was also signed to Cr2 Records and James Zabiela called it “absolutely retarded” when using it as his encore record.
The Bump hasn’t been the only tune that’s made people stand up, dance and take notice. More recently, Anthony has applied his remix skills to such tracks as Martijn Ten Velden’s Ibiza anthem I Wish U Would, Bass Kleph’s Coup D’etat and Stanton Warriors’ Shake It Up. When the Warriors were asked which tune gets the biggest reaction in their sets, they answered, “Shake It Up (Hook N Sling remix). Booty House - works every time.”
Next up, 2008 promises to be just as huge. To further cement his international touring status, Anthony is hitting the States and Canada for a 20-date succession of shows in April. Alongside this, he’s just finished mixing the Ministry Of Sound Clubber’s Guide To 2008 and completed production on fresh originals and highly anticipated remixes, all due for release in the upcoming months.
